MY STORY
Just to give you a little background on my personal journey, my initial interest in teaching children with disabilities began while raising my son who was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and moderate apraxia of speech. During this challenging time, I discovered an innate ability to navigate his academic and social-emotional needs which I am eternally grateful for. I soon got to know other families with similar children, and a small group of us started what is now known as Autism Charlotte. Furthermore, I had great admiration for educational professionals I met along the way who were an integral part of my son’s growth. These experiences inspired me to go back to school and get a master’s degree in teaching (special education), and later in my teaching career, a master’s degree in educational leadership.
After being a special education teacher for almost 10 years, I was presented with a unique opportunity to leave the public school system, spread my educator wings and become my own entity. This opportunity, coupled with others suggesting I start my own educational business/school, empowered me to take this career leap. Saying goodbye to my school family was a difficult decision, but after much deliberation, I determined that this was an opportunity to support families in a more authentic way.
An educational therapist provides a comprehensive service that encompasses the student’s academic and social-emotional needs. It considers the student’s background and invites collaboration with the student’s family, as well as, school team members, etc. Overall, being an advocate for children and their families, in various settings/situations, is what educational therapy is all about.
JKM Educational and Support Services, LLC, officially launched in June 2019. Since my practice's inception, I became a member of the Association of Educational Therapists (https://www.aetonline.org) and attained the association's endorsement as an Educational Therapist/Professional (ET/P). I'm proud to be part of such an impactful association whose mission for over 40 years has been to define and set standards for the professional practice of educational therapy.

Jen's knowledge and perception is beyond any educational service I have witnessed with my son. Her commitment and passion to serving our children is exceptional.
Anna Richardson
Our son doesn’t learn like his typical peers, but Jen found a way to teach him so that it made sense to him, and he was able to learn and progress. She truly became his advocate while he was in K-3rd grade, always a tremendous support for him and us! She truly has his best interest at heart and we honestly don’t know what we would do without her.
